Mr Probz

It's been an incredibly long time since my life was changed by being introduced to an artist, and today I've found one.

Via Spotify suggestions. Crazy I know.

All because I listened to Pharrell Williams song 'Happy' that is topping the charts right now.

His name is Mr Probz, a Dutch hip hop artist. Maybe I love it because I've always loved hip hop and RnB, or maybe I love it because it's super chilled and super funky all at the same time.

He's got the whole chilled rapper vibe in one of his top songs 'Drivin', with the jazzy outro that makes you want more. He literally has a smooth saxophone outro to his rap song. Love it.

Okay so it's no Eminem rap song, but his style is so smooth you just want to sip on cocktail by the pool and groove all at the same time.

His latest song 'Waves' is what caught my attention in the first place.

His husky voice is somewhat smooth, with soft violins, piano and a relaxed guitar riff I feel like I'm actually drifting away with the waves. But not in a sleepy way, in a 'not a care in the world' way.

Much love

Neon Trees | Beth Alexandra

Once I heard the song Everybody Talks by Neon Trees on the radio I immediately Shazamed it. I tend to Shazam a lot of songs on the radio and come home to listen to them on Spotify and most are just one hit wonders. But! I was pleasantly surprised when I listened to Everybody Talks, and left my Spotify playing the rest of the album Picture Show and realised not only did I like their radio hit but also their whole album! Crazy, isn't it, how a band could deliver an album that is consistently great!

I love it when I come across a band or artist where I can listen to the whole album without quickly changing the song so I don't have to listen to that song. Am I the only one who does this? Ah.

Anyway, well done Neon Trees for making it to my All Hit Wonders List (That may or may not exist on paper yet).

So here are just a few of their songs from the Picture Show album...

James Blake | Beth Alexandra

I love those Saturday mornings when the house is mostly free, all I have to do is clean and relax and recover from the week. But this morning was different when my brother introduced me to James Blake. I literally watched his live videos on youtube and thought "He is a musician".

He has a beautiful touch on piano, mostly shown in Limit to your love, that honestly makes me believe in music again. Another favourite is The Whilhelm Scream. I love that his voice isn't that amazing but he is a musician and makes the song about the music, but about the vocals. The makes it about the layers, and somehow it's so beautiful.

So many Indie musicians try to do this, and normally it's boring or messy. In fact, I'm not exactly a fan of the Indie/Alternate genre, but this man is amazing.

Music, "It's like you're my mirror" | Beth-joyce

After wandering the back streets of my University and distantly hearing some sort of passionate drumming, I felt a tug in my.. musical soul (if there ever was one). I looked up and there it was, a recording studio. Now, I honestly don't know where the entry door is, and all I could see was concrete walls with barred and dirt frosted windows but I guess thats what made it so alluring.

I had this yearning inside of me to just go and sit with them (the muso's.. sigh) and watch and listen to them creating and playing music. I miss the days where, instead of hanging out and chatting like normal people do, I could just go into the music room and just be there. Listening and being inspired by who ever was in there.

It's feels unnatural by not playing music for any purpose. All I have is a sporadic urge to play a certain song, or attempt to get out my thoughts which sometimes will be finished in one line.

I'm blogging because I love music, to the point where when I ever find a song that breaks me from my creative coma, it almost brings a tear to my eye.
Hence why I am posting this song.

Mirrors - Justin Timberlake

But before you call me crazy, he's great. Also the real music video is great (which I couldn't embed) but go watch it.

I love that he doesn't stick to the 3 minute song length. Even with his song Lovestoned (I think she knows), I literally only love it because of the "I think she knows" section. It's like he just loves music so much that he doesn't want the song to end, and to be honest neither to do I.

Okay now listen.
